Five years after Leshy first dragged players into his candlelit cabin, the horror card game Inscryption is finally coming to mobile. Developer Daniel Mullins Games dropped the surprise during an official Twitch stream celebrating the game’s fifth anniversary, with creator Daniel Mullins appearing in person to deliver the news.
There is no release date yet. The team was clear that the mobile version is still a little ways off while they work on getting the port right, but the message was unmistakable: soon you’ll be able to carry Leshy, Grimora, Magnificus, and P03 around in your pocket.
A mobile version makes a lot of sense. Inscryption is built around cards on a table, which fits a phone or tablet screen about as naturally as anything can. The game’s first act — the cabin where you trade, sacrifice, and slowly figure out what the masked figure across from you is really after — practically begs for touch controls.
Fans hoping for new content alongside the port should temper their expectations, though. In a Reddit post, the team said no DLC is coming. Their reasoning: Inscryption is a complete experience, both narratively and gameplay-wise, and they don’t want to add content just to ride the game’s success. Protecting what made the game special, they wrote, matters more than expanding it.
The studio’s attention is elsewhere anyway. Most of the team’s energy is going into Pony Island 2: Panda Circus, the sequel to Mullins’ 2016 indie horror experiment, which is set to hit Steam on April 27, 2027. Expect to hear more about the mobile port in the coming months as that release approaches.
For the uninitiated: Inscryption launched on PC in October 2021 and later came to PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox. The roguelike deck-builder won Game of the Year at the 2022 Game Developers Choice Awards, and five years on, its blood-sacrifice mechanics and reality-bending story are still talked about as some of the boldest design in the genre. Soon, you can sacrifice squirrels on the bus.
