GTA 6 Reportedly Needs 210GB of Console Storage

Grand Theft Auto 6 will reportedly take up 210GB of storage on PlayStation 5, according to a new report. Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed the figure.

The download size was reported by PlayStation Game Size on X on October 27, and independently corroborated by Insider Gaming. The listing shows a standard edition price of $79.99, pre-loading from November 12, and a midnight release on November 19.

For comparison, Red Dead Redemption 2 takes around 110GB or more on PlayStation consoles, and the PlayStation 5 version of Grand Theft Auto 5 needs roughly the same. At 210GB, GTA 6 would be almost twice the size of both.

The reported size is also roughly one third of the original PlayStation 5’s usable storage, which sits at around 667GB. Players short on space may need to uninstall games or expand their console’s storage before downloading.

There are caveats. The 210GB figure covers the current build, so updates could change the final install size, and Xbox Series X and S download sizes have not been independently established. Even so, it would rank among the largest PlayStation 5 games, though Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War previously reached nearly 220GB with all modes installed.

GTA 6 launches November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S as a single-player title. Its multiplayer follow-up is reportedly coming next year, which could grow the install size further.

Players short on space have one straightforward upgrade path on PlayStation 5. Sony’s official guidance allows an M.2 SSD expansion using a PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe drive between 250GB and 8TB, with sequential read speeds of at least 5,500 MB/s and a heatsink attached, formatted on the console itself. That expansion plays PS5 games directly, unlike USB extended storage, which can store PS5 titles but cannot run them from the external drive.

The reported size also puts the original PlayStation 5’s storage in perspective. A 1TB console offers roughly 825GB of usable space once the system software is accounted for, so a 210GB install would eat about a quarter of it before any other game, update, or save data. A 2TB expansion, at roughly 1.65TB usable, is the more comfortable fit for players planning to keep several large games installed at once.
