Death Stranding Isolations Anime Hits Disney+ in 2027

Kojima Productions has debuted the first teaser for Death Stranding Isolations, a hand-drawn 2D anime series with an original story set in the world of Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding. The series will stream exclusively on Disney+ in 2027.

The teaser was revealed on October 30, 2026, during Beyond The Strand, the studio’s 10th anniversary celebration event at Azabudai Hills Gallery in Tokyo. Kojima Productions shared the teaser alongside new production details, confirming the show’s staff and its 2027 streaming window.

An original story, not a retelling

Isolations is set in the same universe as the games, immediately after Sam Porter Bridges reconnects North America through the Chiral Network in the first Death Stranding. But it does not retell the games’ story. Instead, it follows a brand-new cast of characters on their own adventure, so newcomers will not need to have played the games to follow it.

At the center of the story is a young girl who lost her mother to the Death Stranding and has grown used to a life of isolation. The teaser opens with her line: “My mom became a crater.” It shows the blonde girl waking from dreams of tar consuming her, with black handprints on glass and hands surging from the ground bringing the game’s BTs into hand-drawn animation.

Her path crosses other new characters whose lives will eventually intersect: a boy consumed by anger, a female soldier trapped in a cycle of conflict, and an older man seeking his own way of connecting people.

The team behind it

Hideo Kojima serves as executive producer, with Takayuki Sano directing. Tow Ubukata, whose credits include Psycho-Pass 3 and Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie, handles series composition and screenplay. Ilya Kuvshinov, character designer on Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, provides the original character designs, and animation comes from E&H Production, the studio behind Ninja Kamui and Bullet/Bullet.

The project was first announced at the Disney+ Originals Preview in 2025 under a working title, with early concept art from Kuvshinov. The new teaser is the first finished animation shown from the series.

What is still unknown

Kojima Productions has not announced an exact premiere date, episode count, or voice cast yet. The official wording is Disney+ or other Disney services in 2027, and some US outlets have also mentioned Hulu, though that is unconfirmed. With the 2027 window still a way off, expect a longer trailer and a firm date closer to launch.
