About this story
GTA 6 is still weeks away from launch, but it is already breaking records. Sensor Tower estimates put digital pre-orders at 6.45 million copies as of October 20, 2026, worth about $630 million, and that figure does not count a single physical copy. PlayStation 5 is doing most of the damage, with an estimated 4.8 million copies and $468 million, roughly 74% of the total. Xbox Series X and S account for the other 26%, about 1.66 million copies and $162 million.
Most buyers are not picking the cheaper option either. The average pre-order comes to about $98, because the majority are choosing the $99.99 Ultimate Edition over the $79.99 standard edition. US digital pre-orders are running 148% ahead of Modern Warfare 2 at the same stage, and Piper Sandler projects more than 45 million copies in the launch window alone. These numbers are third-party estimates, not official figures from Rockstar or Take-Two, but the direction is clear.
GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, and if the pre-orders are any sign, it is on pace to be one of the biggest launches the industry has ever seen.
