GTA 6 Pre-Orders Hit $630 Million Before Launch

GTA 6 is still 4 weeks from launch, but it is already one of the biggest game releases in history. Analytics firm Sensor Tower estimates the game has pulled in about $630 million from 6.45 million digital pre-orders as of October 20, nearly a month before it goes on sale.

PlayStation is carrying the launch. PS5 accounts for 74% of the estimate, roughly 4.8 million copies and $468 million, while Xbox Series X|S holds the remaining 26% with 1.66 million copies and $162 million. The average pre-order is worth about $98, because most buyers are skipping the $79.99 standard edition and going straight for the $99.99 Ultimate Edition.

The climb is getting steeper, not slower. Sensor Tower counted 4.38 million pre-orders and $429 million on August 18, then 6.08 million and $594 million on October 13, and now 6.45 million and $630 million a week later — about 370,000 copies and $36 million added in a single week, with the pre-load rush still ahead. In the US, its digital pre-orders are running 148% ahead of 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 at the same stage.

The fine print matters, though. These are third-party estimates from Sensor Tower’s sales tracker, not official figures, and neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has confirmed them. They also count digital copies only, so every physical pre-order at a retailer comes on top — the real total is higher.

Everything points to a historic November 19. Piper Sandler has projected more than 45 million copies sold in the launch window, and on this pace GTA 6 is set to challenge for the biggest entertainment launch of all time.
