Sony pushed a new PlayStation 5 system update today, November 2, 2026. Version 26.07-14.22.00 is a security-only patch of about 1.267 GB, with no new features, no performance improvements, and no interface changes.
Third security patch in five weeks
It is the third security-focused firmware Sony has shipped in five weeks. The rush follows the Relapse jailbreak chain, which went public on September 29, 2026, giving the homebrew community working kernel access on PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro consoles running firmware 7.00 through 13.60.
Sony answered with firmware 14.10 on October 2, then 14.20 on October 21. Each patch closed the holes the jailbreak scene found, with no features attached — and with 14.22.00, Sony has dropped the indirection entirely, describing the patch plainly as a security fix.
Why GTA 6 is driving the urgency
The timing points at one date: Grand Theft Auto 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation Store datamining has surfaced indications that GTA 6 may require at least firmware 14.10 to run — a requirement that neither Sony nor Rockstar Games has officially confirmed, but that has stayed consistent across pre-launch database checks.
For most players the update arrives automatically, or it can be triggered manually from Settings, then System, then System Software, then System Software Update and Settings. Nothing changes on the surface — the console’s interface, performance, and feature set stay identical to version 14.20.
