Donald Glover to Star in Netflix PUBG Series

Netflix and KRAFTON have announced a live-action television series based on PUBG, and it comes with a headline name attached: Donald Glover will write, direct, executive produce, and star in the show. The announcement landed on Thursday, October 29, 2026, and it instantly became one of the biggest game-to-TV projects Netflix has ever lined up.

Glover is not the only familiar name on the project. His brother Stephen Glover, whose writing credits include Atlanta, Swarm, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, will also write and executive produce. Joining them as executive producers are Michael Schaefer for Neon TV, Fam Udeorji for Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for LV3H, KRAFTON’s entertainment division.

For readers who know PUBG only by name, here is the short version: PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds launched in 2017 and popularized the battle royale genre, dropping up to 100 players onto an island where the last person or team standing wins. The game has since been renamed PUBG: Battlegrounds, and it is still a giant — it averages more than 300,000 concurrent players on Steam in a typical month, and its Steam concurrents peaked at 1.29 million this year, nine years after launch.

What the show will actually be about is still a mystery. Netflix and KRAFTON have not announced any other cast members, a plot, or a release window, which means the series is still in early development. That is normal for an announcement like this one: the headline is the team and the property, and the details follow once scripts and casting take shape.

Glover is a strong fit for the material. Beyond Atlanta and Community, he voiced Yoshi in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this year, and he previously partnered with Ubisoft on a Far Cry 4 trailer. KRAFTON has long said it sees PUBG not just as a game but as a connected universe, so a television series is a natural next step for the franchise.

The PUBG series also joins a crowded Netflix slate of game adaptations, including Arcane, Castlevania, an upcoming live-action Assassin’s Creed series, a live-action Gears of War movie, and animated series based on Minecraft, Magic: The Gathering, and Clash of Clans. A separate animated PUBG series from Castlevania’s Adi Shankar is also on the way, so the battle royale franchise is heading to screens in more than one form.

For now, the things to watch are casting news, a plot outline, and a release window. With Glover writing, directing, producing, and starring, this is a creator-driven adaptation rather than a licensed cash-in, and that alone makes it one of the most interesting game adaptations on Netflix’s board. We will update this story as Netflix and KRAFTON share more.
