The Old West is getting a dark, punishing twist. Guns of Eschaton, a first-person shooter built around Soulslike challenge, now has a release date: December 8, 2026. It is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and a new trailer shown at the Galaxies Showcase confirmed the date.
The game comes from Eschatology Entertainment, a fully remote studio of 75 developers spread across eight countries. Publishing is handled by 4Divinity. This is the studio’s debut title, and it is aiming high: a demanding shooter where every fight, every decision, and every shot actually matters.
An apocalyptic frontier
Guns of Eschaton is set in a fictional version of 19th-century America, but this is not the frontier of classic westerns. Strange factions roam the land, occult horrors lurk in the dark, and familiar figures and myths of the Old West have been reimagined inside an apocalyptic world. Expect dusty towns, tense standoffs, and enemies that punish careless play.
The Soulslike label is doing real work here. The game is built for players who like a challenge, with encounters designed to test patience, aim, and nerve. It is a first-person shooter at heart, but the structure, difficulty, and atmosphere borrow heavily from the genre that made dying part of the fun.
Co-op and creative pedigree
You do not have to face the end of the world alone. Guns of Eschaton supports two-player co-op, so a friend can ride alongside you through the campaign. Solo players can still go it alone, but having an ally to watch your back sounds like a smart move in a world this hostile.
The game also carries some serious creative weight. Art direction comes from the late Viktor Antonov, whose work shaped the look of Half-Life 2 and Dishonored. That pedigree shows in the game’s moody, lived-in frontier, where every ruined town and shadowed canyon feels like it has a story to tell.
Behind the scenes, the studio is backed by investors including GEM Capital, The Games Fund, and KRAFTON, which gives the debut project more firepower than most first games get.
When can you play it?
Guns of Eschaton launches December 8, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders will open soon, and the game is already available to wishlist on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox. If you like your shooters tense, your westerns weird, and your difficulty real, this one deserves a spot on your list.
