SEGA announced on October 26, 2026 that Sonic X Shadow Generations has surpassed 3 million unit sales worldwide, just after the game’s second anniversary.
The package pairs a remastered Sonic Generations with a brand-new Shadow Generations campaign, plus the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack. The figure covers physical and digital sales across all platforms, and SEGA did not break it down by platform.
The game first launched on October 25, 2024 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. A Nintendo Switch 2 edition followed on June 5, 2025. Switch owners should note there is no upgrade pack from the Switch version, so the Switch 2 version is a separate purchase, though save data transfers.
Sales have climbed steadily: over 1 million around launch in October 2024, over 2 million in January 2025, and now over 3 million.
In the announcement, the official Sonic account thanked players, saying: “Even the Ultimate Life Form can’t deny the power of our community. Thank you for pushing SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS to sell more than 3 million copies!”
No sequel, new DLC, or new edition was announced alongside the milestone.
For context, the original Sonic Generations had a strong start of its own: it sold around 1.85 million copies in roughly its first five months after launch in 2011. The remaster package has now comfortably passed that early figure, and it did so across a much wider set of platforms, including a Nintendo Switch 2 edition that arrived on June 5, 2025, the same day as the console itself.
The milestone also continues a strong commercial run for the hedgehog. Sonic Frontiers, the open-zone entry that preceded this package, has sold more than 5 million copies, and SEGA has kept the character in front of players with the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie tie-in pack included in this bundle. No new sequel, DLC, or edition was announced alongside the 3 million figure, so for now the package stands on its own sales.
Part of the package’s appeal is that the Shadow half is genuinely new, not a remaster. Shadow Generations is a standalone campaign in which Black Doom reemerges and Shadow journeys through his own past, unlocking five new Doom Powers along the way, from surfing on water to sprouting wings for gliding. Its White Space hub world borrows the open-zone design of Sonic Frontiers, opening up further as Shadow gains powers, which gives returning players a reason to buy beyond nostalgia for the remastered stages.
