The Lamb is getting a second life on new hardware. Massive Monster has confirmed that Cult of the Lamb is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 22, 2026, and players who already own the game on the original Switch can upgrade for free.
New buyers will pay the same price as the Switch 1 version: $24.99 for the base game. There is no separate Upgrade Pack to buy, which sets this release apart from several other Switch 2 ports that charge existing owners a fee to move up.
If you missed it the first time around, Cult of the Lamb mixes two very different games into one strange package. Half of it is a roguelike dungeon crawler: you venture into procedurally generated realms, fight through waves of heretics with fast melee combat, and take down the bishops of the Old Faith. The other half is a cult-management sim: back at base, you build shelters, cook food, perform rituals, and keep your woodland followers happy, loyal, and alive.
That loop is what made the game a hit when it launched in August 2022. Nintendo Life gave the Switch version an 8 out of 10, calling it a satisfyingly stressful sim, and Massive Monster has kept it alive since with a steady run of free and paid updates.
The biggest of those arrived earlier this year. Woolhaven, a paid expansion that adds new biomes and a new campaign act, launched in January 2026 for $16.99 on its own. Players who want everything in one package can pick up The One Who Waits Edition, which bundles the base game with Woolhaven and four cosmetic packs for $59.99.
What we still do not know is what the Switch 2 version actually improves. Massive Monster’s announcement covered the date and the upgrade policy but said nothing about frame rate, resolution, or other hardware-specific upgrades. It also has not said whether the DLC carries over as part of the free upgrade, so owners of Woolhaven and the cosmetic packs should wait for confirmation before assuming their add-ons come along.
Even with those questions open, the pricing is the story here. Free upgrades for existing owners are never guaranteed, and several publishers have charged for them on Switch 2. Massive Monster is going the other way, and that makes October 22 an easy date to mark if you already own the game, or a good excuse to finally start your cult if you do not.
