Santa Monica Studio has delayed God of War Laufey by three months, moving the PlayStation 5 exclusive from February 16 to May 20, 2027.
The studio announced the delay on November 4, 2026, saying it needs more time to put the finishing touches on the game and push it to its fullest potential. The move is a 93-day slip for one of Sony’s biggest 2027 releases.
Laufey stars Faye, Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother, in her first outing as the series lead. She was revealed as the new hero at the June 2026 State of Play, stepping out of Kratos’ shadow for the first time in the series.
The delay is the second big slip for the series. God of War Ragnarok also moved, from 2021 to November 2022, before launching to strong reviews and big sales. Santa Monica Studio has a history of taking the extra time when a game needs it, and fans have seen that trade pay off before.
The new May date also moves Laufey out of a crowded February. Sony’s own Until Dawn 2 still lands January 28, 2027, so the spring calendar gets a little more breathing room with Laufey now sitting in May.
Pre-orders are still listed at around $69.99 for the standard edition and around $149.99 for the Collector Box, though store pages still showed the old February 16 date at last check. Anyone who already pre-ordered should see the new date once retailers update their listings.
God of War Laufey is a PlayStation 5 exclusive. No PC or Xbox version has been announced. The game was first revealed at the June 2026 State of Play, and it is the first mainline God of War game to put Faye at the center of the story.
Three more months is a long wait for a game fans have wanted since the June reveal. But if the extra time means Faye’s debut lands the way it should, most fans will take the trade and wait for May.
