Apple on Tuesday unveiled a new 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac powered by its latest M6 chip, touting faster performance for running AI tasks directly on the devices. Customers can pre-order both products from Wednesday, October 28, in 35 countries and regions, including the US, with availability starting November 6.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,999. Its M6 chip features an advanced 12-core CPU with the world’s fastest CPU core, plus a 12-core GPU that delivers up to 30% faster graphics and up to 25% faster AI performance than its M5 predecessor. Battery life reaches up to 24 hours, which Apple describes as the longest ever in a Mac. The laptop comes in space black and silver, with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, a Liquid Retina XDR display, and macOS 27.
The new iMac starts at $1,499 and delivers up to 5x faster on-device AI performance than the previous M4 model, according to Apple. It keeps its strikingly thin all-in-one design with a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, and comes in seven colors: blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange, and silver. It also gains Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and macOS 27.
The launches come a day before Apple hosts a “Pro and tell” event in Los Angeles on October 28, which Bloomberg News has reported is expected to feature Apple’s first touch-screen MacBook Pro. That has been reported, not confirmed by Apple.
The common thread is on-device AI: with its Dual 16-core Neural Engine and Neural Accelerators in the GPU, the M6 platform runs Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features, and even local large language models, while preserving user privacy.
The M6 itself marks a process shrink and a core-count bump. Built on a 2nm process, it moves from 10 CPU and GPU cores on the M5 to 12 of each, and Apple pairs it with up to 170GB/s of unified memory bandwidth on the MacBook Pro, up from the M4 generation’s 120GB/s. The 14-inch MacBook Pro ships with 16GB of memory as standard, configurable to 32GB, and 1TB of storage as standard, alongside three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, MagSafe 3, and an SDXC card slot.
The iMac line splits into two tiers. The $1,499 base model keeps a 10-core chip, while the 12-core version starts at $1,699. Both share the 24-inch 4.5K display at 4480×2520 and 500 nits, a 12MP Center Stage camera, and Apple’s N1 wireless chip, with storage starting at 256GB and configurable up to 2TB. Apple also claims the new PCIe 5.0 SSD storage runs roughly twice as fast as the previous generation’s, which matters most for large photo and video libraries.
