Star Wars Battlefront 3 may finally be happening. Variety reports, citing multiple sources, that the secret project DICE and Respawn Entertainment are building together is Battlefront 3 — the sequel fans have been asking about for almost a decade.
What EA actually confirmed. During its big October 21 restructuring — the one that closed BioWare — EA said in an internal memo that Battlefield studio DICE and Apex Legends studio Respawn are collaborating on an unnamed title. EA did not name the game, but said it will help build a “shooter portfolio that unlocks growth,” and that lessons from Battlefield 6’s launch and live service will feed directly into it.
How the story came together. The trail started with EGM’s revived Quarterman rumor column, which said Lucasfilm Games was shopping a new Battlefront around, with DICE and Sony’s Bungie as the frontrunners — a rumor spotted and amplified by Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb. Wardogs CEO Joe Brammer then said he had heard the pairing was DICE plus Respawn, and Variety’s sources have now backed that version up.
Why fans want this one. DICE built the modern Battlefront series: the 2015 reboot and Battlefront II in 2017. The sequel launched into a famous loot-box controversy, but EA stripped the pay-to-win systems out, kept supporting the game, and it became a fan favorite — so much so that Battlefront II had a huge player resurgence in 2025, with players openly campaigning for a third game. Reports back in 2022 said EA had passed on a Battlefront follow-up to focus on Apex Legends and Battlefield, which makes this reversal a big deal.
Star Wars is on a roll. The franchise has momentum right now: Star Wars Zero Company, which Respawn co-developed, and Star Wars: Galactic Racer both landed this year to strong reviews. A full-scale Battlefront 3 from EA’s two best shooter studios would be the biggest Star Wars game bet in years.
One honest caveat. EA has NOT officially announced Battlefront 3, and the company has not confirmed the title of the DICE and Respawn project. For now this is a strong report from a major outlet with multiple sources — not a reveal trailer. But with the collaboration itself confirmed in EA’s own memo, the only real question left is what the game is called — and Variety’s answer is the one fans wanted to hear.
