Capcom just handed the Arisen a reason to return. Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is out now — unlocking today, October 9 — on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, with the game also making its long-awaited debut on Nintendo Switch 2.
Players who already own the base game can pick up Dark Arisen as a standalone expansion for $29.99. Newcomers on Switch 2 get the full package: the base game plus the expansion for $49.99, which marks the first time the sequel has been playable on a Nintendo console.
A whole new frozen frontier
The headline addition is Norgan, a long-abandoned region in the snowy north that opens up once your save reaches Vernworth. Capcom recommends tackling it around level 40, and the stakes feel worthy of the trek: you team up with a character named Eir to hunt the Fallen Dragon, an undying second dragon that is not just a rerun of the original game’s Grigori encounter.
Exploration comes with a twist. Relics pulled from the frozen wastes have to be taken back to a village NPC for appraisal before they unlock new weapons and skills, adding a gamble to every expedition. With only one town at the far south of Norgan and campsites few and far between, each push north plays like a dangerous mountain climb where you earn the right to go farther.
More than just a new map
Back in the original regions, the expansion adds 12 Lost Rites dungeon challenges aimed at veteran players, plus new hairstyles and tattoos for anyone looking to rework their Arisen or main Pawn. A free Title Update 4.0 lands alongside the DLC with a much-requested Hard Mode, carryover save options for returning players, and Eternal Ferrystone fast travel. PS5 Pro owners also get an Enhanced PSSR machine-learning upscaling patch, and the base game itself received a permanent price cut ahead of launch.
Early reviews are strongly positive, praising the scope of Norgan, the new bosses, and improved performance — especially on Switch 2 and PS5 Pro. At roughly 25GB, the download is no small one, but for players who wanted Dragon’s Dogma 2 to go further, this is the second wind the game was waiting for.
